Agenda for World Concertina Day 2025, at Maulden February 16th

Amended 16.01.2025  Note: this session may now be Zoomed – to be confirmed shortly

Advance notice of this year’s World Concertina Day offering, at Maulden (St Mary’s) Church Hall on Sunday February 16th, 2.00-6.00. Sheet music and mp3s to practice against are now available on our Members webpage (password protected). For attendance / membership details, contact Martin Henshaw at martin_h@email.com

C is for Concertina Medley:

                  March of the Concertinas

                 The Concertina Reel

                 The New Concertina

O is for Off She Goes (p32, Dave T)

is for Nancy’s Fancy  (p14, Dave T)

both are Concertina Band arrangements from Dave Townsend’s Village Band Music for Concertina Band book (music not on website, but spare copies available at the session)

is for Come All Ye… any wandering minstrels present are invited to play a tune of their choice, or request one to be played

is for E Major: Brahms Opus 39, Waltz no 2. This month’s challenge is a sharp one – a (but not the) Brahms Lullaby in E Major – an opportunity to find out where d# is on your concertina! I’ve also included sheet music for a 4 part version, which we could play (at a future session?) if wished. A Youtube version is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SfZXJHsyiI

is for Refreshments – a chance to sample one of Martin’s Cream Teas

is for Theme, in this case a variety of Tunes starting with the letter T.  All from Paul Hardy’s 2024 Tunebook.

               Tennessee Waltz (Waltz, p176)

Top of Cork Road (Jig, p181)

               The Triumph (Polka, p183)

                Trumpet Hornpipe (Hornpipe, p183)

Turkey in the Straw (Reel, p183)

is for Inisheer – part of Claire Wren’s arrangement as a set with The Wedding Gift waltz. (Claire has very kindly provided us with sheet music for this, for Chiltinas use only, so please don’t copy on). We will only play the Inisheer part of the set, and play the Wedding Gift and the full set at future sessions.

is for Normandy, a hymn tune composed by Geneva-born Chretien Bost.

A is for Additional tunes: Appelbo Ganglat and Ashokan Farewell (always a good tune to finish on) – in case we have time to spare. (And, even more excitingly, A is also for  A.O.B.)
